Loneliness Vs. Aloneness
Especially in Greece, and particularly in my hometown, this day is being celebrated more than any other day of the year! People have open grills in any neighborhood, from early in the morning, to late evening. And then everyone gathers around the dinner table, eats, and drinks their faces off, till the new year kicks off.
But, what's the whole fuzz about? I mean, in a way I get it...
They say it's important the new year finds you where you want to be, and who you want to be with for the whole year.
So I guess it's fantastic I'm home in my jammies, WhatsApp-ed my long-distance besties to wish them fun and joy, made myself the last supper, poured a glass of local red, and started writing!
Cause this is how I want the new year to find me; Home, with my furry lil' family, serene and content!
Alas, this is what I worked for!
With a place to call home, financially independent, emotionally stable, healing from my past, improving my relationship with myself!
Because I only have me;
when this phrase shifts from being intimidating to intriguing, that's when the real magic begins to unfold!
I have me to love and me to love I.
I have me to take care of and me to take care of I.
I have me to think of and me to think of I.
This is a little poem I gift myself for the New Year! This is my new mantra!
I could, of course not spend this night alone. I could have gone to my sweet sister's home and spent the night with her lovely family and her dear friends. But that wouldn't be what I wanted to do, this would be what the circumstances would have dictated me to do.
But you see, there is a key difference between Loneliness and Aloneness.
Loneliness chooses you, but you choose Aloneness!
And so it is, as the last hour of 2024 is coming to its end, I only have one last thing to say to 2025;
BRING IT ON!
