The Art of letting go

...or, how to lose a fake friend in a simple step

Art is for the receiver, it's what the mind can perceive and what the being can experience.
Art is for the senses; you can touch it, see it, smell and taste it, you can hear it, feel it, read it.

For me, art is the experience of what you've felt inside

a quote from Close-up  which I believe it is the most real and beautiful thing!

It's one of the most complex yet simplest concepts that surround us. But if art is practically in everything, then who is the artist?

Story time:
A couple of summers ago, I was traveling by ferry with an old friend. We were going camping to Samothrace, one of the most magnificent Greek islands. At some point, whilst on the way there, she started trashing her ex, which is ok I guess, as it felt like she had to take it out of her chest, but she mentioned that she didn't think he was an artist after all, since for the years they've been together he only created a few pieces (he is a tattoo artist and a graphic designer)  and not in the frequency she was creating hers (she is a song writer, a singer, a painter and crafts creator), so for her, that made him a non artist while she is in fact a true artist... (dot dot dot)

Well... I wanted to be a good friend, but I could not not defend art, or perhaps I could not not ask her the question that triggered her the most: what makes an artist an artist? Cause it's not the frequency of producing it, someone who used to paint at their younger age, but doesn't any longer, is not any less of an artist than the one who started painting at an older age, but didn't use to paint when younger. See where I'm getting with it? (she didn't, if you ask)
Art doesn't have time, and is not a straight graph you can't pinpoint where it starts and where will it end. Same way an old lady who does an amazing orange-pie, which is her own inspiration and a recipe that was awarded as the best orange-pie of the country, is not any less of an artist that a 30-something year old woman who needs to put everyone else down, so she feels good about herself. Sorry!

Maybe I am not a good friend, or maybe I was not a good friend to her. She doesn't talk to me nowadays, which is fine, we weren't getting anything out of this friendship either way. But this is some good piece of material for my new blog, so, thanks Maria! Maybe our then conversation is good piece of material for your therapist...

The moral of the story?
If I had to choose one thing that would be to stay true to your beliefs, because like this you can filter people out of your life easier. Anyone who feels offended by a simple question you ask, is not offended by you, they're not well with themselves. And there's nothing you can do about saving them, or your relationship for that matter, if they chose to let it get in between them and you.

Just remember, relationships work both ways. If they no longer serve their purpose, sometimes it's best if you let them go....
